In 1972, Al began teaching at Christian High School in San Diego, California. During this time in addition to his regular teaching duties, Al spent much of his own time talking to small groups about rock music. His passion was to save young people from the pain and suffering he had experienced during his own school years. This work was the foundation of Al Menconi Ministries, which officially began in October 1982. Today Al Menconi is considered a leading expert on the influence of today's entertainment on the Christian family. His focus is to equip parents and leaders to communicate biblical values in the Christian home. Al has appeared on The 700 Club, CBN, TBN, the Minirth-Meier Radio Clinic, the Armed Forces and Moody radio networks and has been interviewed on countless other radio and TV programs. He has appeared on the Sally Jesse Raphael show and debated Frank Zappa and Jello Biafra (of the punk band Dead Kennedys) on music censorship. Al has spoken at nearly every major Christian music festival and has been a featured speaker at the annual Gospel Music Association convention. He has spoken at countless churches, camps and conferences in both Canada and the U.S. He has also spoken at every Sunday School convention and many major youth and youth ministry conventions, such as Youth Specialties, DC/LA and the National Youth Leaders' Convention. He is also a popular speaker for the Association of Christian Schools International and home schooling conventions. Al has written extensively on today's entertainment media and Christian parenting. He is a featured columnist at Crosswalk.com and his articles have appeared in Christian Parenting Today, Moody Monthly, Christian Reader, CCM, Dad's Only and many other Christian periodicals. Al's monthly editorial (Al's AnALysis) appears in Christian newspapers across the country. Al and his wife Jan, an administrator at Santa Fe Christian Schools, have been married since 1974 and reside in Carlsbad, California.
