WOULD BE GREAT FOR...
SpecialtyBobbye and Tonilee are co-founders of “Daily Disciples Ministries.” They are authors, teachers and speakers with a passion and desire to teach others how to have a daily walk with Jesus Christ by studying the Bible and learning how to pray. They write Bible studies for churches and small groups and consult with those needing assistance in women’s ministry issues. They teach workshops and hold seminars on several topics including prayer, prayer journaling, and applying God’s Word to real-life situations. Bobbye's BioBobbye Brooks, a small-town girl from Tennessee, decided early on that being “good” didn’t really matter much. She had been “saved” at the age of eight in a summer revival service at her Baptist church, but when the church experienced a divisive split, she began to focus her energy on a fast-paced career and the lifestyle that went with it. She knew that Jesus was her Savior and that He was always with her, but she wanted to control her life and keep the Lord at a safe distance. She was on a fast track to the executive office before she reached 30 years old until life took a turn. She started struggling with difficulties at work. Her marriage ended in divorce, and she lost her father. Bobbye left Nashville and moved to San Diego, California, where she maintained her upwardly mobile career pace, but found herself wanting to settle down. She met and married a terrific guy and was blessed with an instant family who supported her career and seemed to adjust to her extensive travel. The new family even attended church together as often as possible. Life was great, and with her MBA completed, Bobbye felt that she had finally reached her goals for success. She was convinced that her happiness was a result of her good decisions and the control she had over the direction in her life. But God wasn’t as interested in her success as He was in her heart. Bobbye suddenly had difficulty getting out of bed in the mornings. She was unmotivated at work, mentally slow, and physically exhausted. No amount of positive thinking or self-motivation seemed to help. Soon she was forced to take time off from work and rest. But no matter what she tried, she found herself getting worse. Her best laid plans hadn’t produced the desired results. In fact, nothing was working. Bobbye struggled physically, mentally, and emotionally for more than a year. She felt hopeless and helpless. She constantly cried out to God to feel better, to be able to return to work, and to get on with her life. But nothing changed until Bobbye asked the Lord what He wanted from her. Following a long and frustrated prayer, she surrendered control to God, telling Him that He could do whatever He wanted with her life. The following Sunday she signed up for her very first women’s Bible study. Slowly, her life began to change as she felt herself fall in love with Jesus and with His people. She met Tonilee Adamson during this time, and they became fast friends as well as committed prayer partners. Bobbye was able to walk away from her former career and her ambitious striving and is now dedicated to the Lord’s plans and purposes. Soon, Bobbye’s health in all areas was fully restored. Her personal goals and ambitions also changed. She no longer desires to pursue success in the business world but instead has chosen to pursue the work of the ministry. Tonilee's BioEven as a young girl, Tonilee Adamson understood the reverence of the Lord and believed in God. Her family was even considered to be religious. Yet she couldn’t shake the feeling that surely there was more to life than what she’d experienced so far. And then her family moved across the country from New Jersey to southern California. Unlike some girls her age, Tonilee was 12 years old and excited about this move. She looked forward to making new friends—especially since she had already seen that many of her East Coast friends were heading down a path she did not want to take. Moving to California brought a lot of changes to her family. Tonilee’s mother accepted Jesus as her Savior at a neighborhood Bible study and encouraged her daughter to do the same. One Sunday morning, Tonilee remembers praying a quick prayer, “God, if you want me, you’ll need to show me.” As Mass began, the priest asked, “Why are you afraid to accept Jesus Christ into your heart?” He continued, “Today this Mass is dedicated to everyone who is afraid.” Tonilee knew that God had answered her prayer from earlier that morning and accepted Jesus as her Savior. Bible reading and prayer became an irresistible love in her life from that moment. Her parents started a Bible study in their home after they noticed their daughter’s new found faith and desire for Christian friends. After all, her public high school had a campus population of close to 2,000 students! Opportunities for her to witness were endless. Tonilee soon realized that she possessed a God-given gift—a boldness to speak the truth of Jesus to everyone she met. Dramatic things began to happen as God drew students to Him and changed their lives. After graduation, Tonilee went to a Christian college. The transition was much harder than she expected. She encountered persecution from the Christian kids and discovered how much more painful it was coming from them than when it was initiated by unbelievers. Struggling and discouraged with the emotional rollercoaster of four years of college life, she graduated, married, and entered the nursing profession full-time. She continued to witness and pray for job promotions and for the salvation of others and saw indisputable results. But it wasn’t long before Tonilee realized that her marriage was in trouble. She cried out to God for help, but her prayers seemed to bring no response at all. After three and a half years, Tonilee was angry, hurt…and divorced. She felt that God had turned His back on her and felt herself turning away from Him. Tonilee soon met and started dating a nice guy who attended the Mormon Church. She told the Lord that the Christian guy hadn’t worked out so she was going to date someone else. As she discussed her confusion and struggles with the Lord over her divorce, her new boyfriend accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and left the Mormon Church. Marriage followed quickly, followed by two miscarriages—the first one she attributed to medical statistics, but the second one got her attention, and she quickly turned back to the Lord in repentance. Tonilee observed her husband closely following his salvation experience. He was totally committed to daily personal Bible study, and his devotion encouraged Tonilee to surrender self-control and allow God free reign in her life. God has blessed Tonilee and her husband with a wonderful life, complete with three terrific kids.
