bio
Cheryl Reccord – life coach, author and speaker -- may be entering the best years of her life. After raising three kids, she’s got them (almost!) out of the nest. She gave them their wings. Now Cheryl is putting those valuable life skills to work in new ways and she’s surprised by how much demand there is for a woman eager to share those ideas and insights with others. Her latest book project is Launching Your Kids for Life (W Publishing Group, 2005), co-authored with her husband, Dr. Bob Reccord, president of the North American Mission, Southern Baptist Convention. Although she and Bob have individually authored books on other subjects, they decided to team up for this one to provide readers with both a mother’s and a father’s perspective on parenting. In fact, they punched it up another notch by interviewing many other parents and sharing what they have to say as well. As the Reccord's knew the parenting lit market was crowded, they thought “What can we say that hasn’t already been said?” After some research they believe they’ve figured it out. Many books provide wonderful theories and even super ideas…if parents can only find the time to implement them!! Cheryl and Bob wanted to write a more practical book, one loaded with insights and ideas that wouldn’t require an overwhelming amount of time to a family’s already demanding schedule. So they wrote a book with the busy parent in mind and – while they were at it – they made it appealing for both mothers and fathers. They also included specific tools their readers can put into practice as soon as they set down the book. Launching Your Kids is for parents who are serious about giving their children “wings” – the ability to fly on their own, discovering and living God’s purpose for their life.
A native of Michigan, Cheryl followed her dream of becoming a pianist at Indiana University. There she found that music was only part of God’s plan for her life. She discovered the difference between a religion and a relationship with the One who would lead and inspire her forever. It was also at this time that she met her future husband with whom whe would enter the ministry. Then came graduate school, children and the challenge of greater pastoral responsibilities. Bob was also in demand, traveling, speaking and pursuing God’s calling that led to his leadership at a large and influential missionary-sending agency. But it wasn’t always an easy life for Cheryl. You may have heard Bob and Cheryl’s story when Dr. James Dobson interviewed them on Focus on the Family. The Reccords’ family life together has been a great teacher and Cheryl has learned well from her experiences. Now she mentors other wives and mothers – meeting with them one-on-one, in groups or by speaking at conferences such as Timothy Barnabas.
What Others Are Saying
"Cheryl Reccord was the speaker for our annual (2007) SWAT Weekend Connection Conference in Virginia in2006, and left quite a legacy.
"More than anything I've ever done or been a part of, Cheryl’s material and manner the message was delivered revolutionized my life and the entire team's lives. That is no exaggeration. We have spent the entire year repeatedly talking about what we learned and how it truly impacted us. We refer to it OFTEN. Every single missionary wife is constantly telling me stories of how she has been able to use the material and how it continues to impact and influence who she is personally. Our interrelationships have become very strong and healthy and I've watched the Lord work mightily in their lives over this past year.
"I have always felt people should be told when they've done good in someone's life. So I couldn't let this opportunity pass in telling Cheryl "thank you" for being open and willing to share with others in Christ's name. . And that legacy is attached to her faithfulness and will continue for generations to come. That's a true legacy."
- Debbie Hammond, wife of Geoff Hammond, President of the North American Mission Board, SBC
"I have had Cheryl Reccord speak for my yearly conference for seven years. That says it all. She has been a favorite with women from all over America and when she is finished they stand in line to talk with her. Why? Because of wisdom which allows her to powerfully apply biblical principles to the realities of being a woman today. And, her walk matches her talk, in the good times and the tough ones. You’ll want this lady speaking for you!"
